Her name says it all. She is a fighter and has been through alot. From the cool spring day that I found her in the field with no registering temperature , to the heavy doses of antibiotics for a bone infection, to the bone spurs that caused her so much pain she would only stand to eat during cold days. To the leg amputation. She has been a fighter and she thinks life is Simply Glorious. Gloria is a favorite on the farm. Many hours were spent getting her healthy and I glad to say as of today she is completely healthy. Read her story below.
Gloria has has a rough start to life. She was born premature and even though mom had plenty of milk, she registered a IGG of 0. She developed a bone infection at 1 month of age. After an extensive treatment of antibotics, the bone infection cleared up but left the head of her right femur in bad shape. We hope for the best but the head of the femur had deteriorated and was covered with bone spurs causing her much discomfort. After weighing our options we decide to have the leg amputated. Best case scenario she will have enough strength and balance to carrier a pregnancy.
It has now been 11 month since her surgery to amputate her right leg and she hasn't missed it. She now plays with the other cria and we have even caught her pronking out in the field.
The leg that has been amputated was removed from the hip so she cannot be fitted for a prosthesis.
